Ugos first birthday

This February, a special inhabitant of the quarantine center of the Sumatra Orangutan Conservation Programme SOCP will celebrate his first birthday: Ugo Blanco. This young orangutan had a difficult start to his life: His mother Fitri had been released in Bukit Lawang in 1997, but she died last year while giving birth to Ugo. So the team of the SOCP took on the challenge to raise and care for the newborn orphan. Thanks to their professional skills and huge effort, Ugo Blanco has not only survived: He is in great shape, exploring the area, getting in touch with other orangutans and learning to climb. Ugo will still have to stay in the quarantine for a while, as he is too young for an independent life in the wild.
