Looking for an adventure? Ride four days on an elephant through the jungle and help protect the rainforest of the Gunung Leuser National Park!

Bukit Lawang is the final destination of a four day trekking tour on the back of Sumatra Elephants. The route leads along the Gunung Leuser National Park, through dense rainforest, natural rivers and few small settlements. Taking part on a jungle patrol, you will become a team with your mahout and his elephant. Nights will be spent in basic but romantic jungle camps. The elephants you will be riding were born in the wild. They come from areas, where the increasing human use of land caused conflicts and authorities were forced to round the elephants up. In the government camp in Tangkahan they are now trained and for a valuable job: By patrolling they help protect the rainforest of the Gunung Leuser National Park from illegal logging. Furthermore, tourism provides an alternative source of income for the local inhabitants.
