| The Oldest Organic Rice PPLH Seloliman was the first environmental education center of Indonesia and works mainly on the promotion of organic farming.
Land is a scare commodity on Java, but sustainable use of resources is still not widespread. The focus of PPLH Seloliman is, therefore, to provide basic knowledge on organic farming and its application. At PPLH Seloliman, farmers from the region learn how to farm their land organically. Children and adults learn more about ecological linkages and the meaning of sustainability.

The environmental education programme of PPLH Seloliman is focused primarily on two different target groups: interested farmers in the region, to whom the fundamentals of organic farming are communicated, and school classes and private visitors, for whom courses and seminars on a range of environmental topics are available. The teaching staff of the farmer field school are well-trained specialists of PPLH Seloliman. Their classes incorporate both latest findings and traditional know-how. A hallmark of the teaching is its proximity to practical application: the training takes place in the villages and, alongside theory, involves a practical section in the fields of participants.
Courses and seminars PPLH Seloliman offers a host of courses, workshops, and seminars for school classes, private groups, and individual visitors. The topics range from the rainforest ecosystem, to environmental ethics and the greening of house and office. Moreover, every Sunday visitors to PPLH are invited to exchange their experiences and views on varying environmental topics. The entire PPLH infrastructure is open to all visitors and serves as a display model. Among its special features are a show garden, a plant-based wastewater purification system, and the care of different livestock.
