Nature and Culture

Travel educates and can be a valuable contribution to sustainable development. PanEco supports the development of socially and environmentally sustainable tourism in Indonesia.

Ecotourism takes into account four considerations: conservation, environmental education, collaboration with local inhabitants and the individual accountability of travellers.
Accordingly, our work follows the following principles:

  • Environmental management (e.g. waste water treatment, recycling, use of local products, etc.) is an integral part of ecotourism projects
  • Tourism does not conflict with the needs and wishes of the local population
  • The impact and influence on the natural environment is kept to a minimum
  • Travellers are required to treat both people and nature with respect

We support ecotourism projects as a means for the sustainable development of remote regions with valuable natural assets. The goal of these projects is first and foremost to provide an alternative source of income for the local population. The genuine interest shown by travellers also improves people's perception of the value of "their" nature and promotes mutual understanding between different cultures. A part of the income generated flows back into local conservation projects.
