Vegetables and Volcanoes
Pure relaxation in the midst of rice paddies and rainforest: Seloliman offers a tranquil oasis far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Seloliman is an introspective village in the east of Java. The rural surroundings are characterised by paddy fields of all shape and size, many of which are organically farmed. After all, it was in Seloliman that the first environmental education centre in Indonesia was opened in 1991.
The main landmark of Seloliman is, however, the sacred Penanggungan volcano. At its feet lies a unique sanctuary with valuable rainforest and old temples. A special permit allows hikes through the sanctuary to be conducted with a guide from PPLH Seloliman.
Travel: Seloliman is approximately 1.5 hours from Surabaya by taxi or bus. PPLH Seloliman can arrange a pickup on request.
Accommodation: Bungalows, guesthouses and bedrooms are available to visitors.
